I wholeheartedly agree about writing in the summer, and about choosing not to submit to conservative publications. I try not to shame writers sharing about such publications, because it's hard enough to get published anywhere, and also because plenty of people I like IRL happen to be conservatives. I rather enjoy it when lit mag editors have eccentric politics that depart from cultural left orthodoxies in various ways, even though I mostly subscribe to those orthodoxies, because otherwise it all gets a little same-y. I'm thinking that what I object to with journals like The New Criterion isn't so much their politics as their stuffiness, which they share with plenty of leftish magazines as well. Best to ignore the whole lot and stick with the underground, I feel.
